Stormwater 2020 Awards

The Stormwater Group recognises the expertise and contribution to the sector by presenting awards at the annual stormwater conference dinner.

Stormwater Professional of the Year

This award is to recognise an individual within the industry that has had a significant contribution to stormwater management and development within the wider spectrum of engineering, research or industry.

Individuals can nominate a stormwater professional or themselves for this award. Please note the nominee must be a Water New Zealand member.

The key attributes of a nomination that will be reviewed are as follows:

  • Industry leadership
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop, articulate and implement changes in the stormwater industry
  • Contribution to the industry and wider community/industry partners
  • Peer and wider recognition in relevant communities
  • Demonstration of high standards of ethical and personal behaviour

A maximum of 300-word synopsis of the nominee is to be forwarded to Katrina Guy at Water New Zealand, by 4pm on Friday 27th March 2020, details below. The winner will be announced at the Stormwater conference dinner on Thursday 28th May in Tauranga.

Young Stormwater Professional of the Year

This award is to recognise a Young Stormwater Professional within the industry that has made a significant contribution to the stormwater industry and the general community and has demonstrated exceptional achievement in the early stages of his or her career.

The Young Stormwater Professional of the Year is open to individual members who are under 35 years of age. Please note the nominee must be a Water New Zealand member at time of nomination

The key attributes of a nomination that will be reviewed are as follows:

  • At least 12 months’ work or research experience.
  • Exceptional achievement in his or her career.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Contribution to the stormwater industry.
  • Commitment to volunteer activities.

Nominations will be assessed based on the following information:

  1. Cover letter (1 page) and CV demonstrating how the candidate achieves the key attributes listed above.
  2. One or two supporting statements of no more than 500 words written by peers of the candidate who work in the water industry.  The statements must include telephone and email contact details of each of the referees. Ideally, one statement will be from the employer of the nominee. The second statement could be from a mentor, colleague, a Water New Zealand member or client.
  3. Supporting documentation (optional) may include articles, media, conferences presented at and relevant websites. This is limited to a maximum of five pages.

Stormwater Conference – Paper of the Year

This award is to recognise the contribution that individuals and collaborative partners play in the stormwater industry. There will be a shortlist of 3-4 papers selected by the paper reviewers for this coming conference with the final review being undertaken by independent industry leaders.

The key attributes that will be reviewed for the short-listed papers are as follows:

  • Scored in relation to:
    • Presentation and professional standard
    • Contribution to the industry with respect to innovation, technical complexity
  • Papers to be prepared in accordance with the submission requirements

The winner will be announced at the Stormwater conference dinner on Thursday 28th May in Tauranga.

Innovation Showcase Award

The Innovation Showcase will be held again at the 2020 Stormwater Conference. More information on the Innovation Showcase, and the Innovation Showcase Award, will be available Thursday 12 December 2019.

The winner will be announced at the Stormwater Conference dinner on Thursday 28th May in Tauranga.
